The reels for Imaginarium
Imaginarium is the festival Caraval brings to the Rocca Sforzesca in Soncino every summer. To tell it we shot vertical reels, cut short and made to stop the thumb mid scroll.

The project
Brief
Caraval is a theatre company from Soncino, our own town, and every summer they tour Imaginarium, their festival. Live performance has one problem: the work only exists while it happens. They asked us for photographs and video that would carry its light and movement, and a website to hold them together with the festival and the academy.
The challenges
- Shooting in a theatre, with difficult light and no chance to redo a scene
- Capturing the movement of the stage without losing the performers' faces
- Material that had to work both on social media and on posters
The solution
We followed the company on stage, starting with their Romeo and Juliet, working with the light that was there rather than fighting it: high contrast and deep blacks, so the costumes and the set stay in the foreground. From the footage came a presentation video and vertical reels for social, cut short because that is where an audience for live performance is built. Highlighted, in the right season, the Imaginarium festival.
What we made
The pieces of the project
Romeo and Juliet
We followed them on stage for their Romeo and Juliet, working with the stage light instead of fighting it: high contrast and deep blacks.
On stage
The stage does not wait and cannot be redone: you shoot with what is there, fast shutter speeds and no added light, so as not to kill the only source that matters.
The company
The rest is staying close to the performers and waiting for the right gesture, the one that holds character and moment together.
The website
A single site that holds the company's three sides together: the shows, the Imaginarium festival and the academy. The same stage photography becomes the background, so the site carries the tone of the stage.
